It seems like Texas's claim to fame is that is hot, and then it's winter. I don't know of any other place where it is near 90 in October! And rain? Well it's rained maybe 4 or 5 times since I moved here last December. In New York it rains all the time, in fact rainy weather is my favorite and I love cold weather! Maybe I need to consider a different locale.
Problem of the day: Unemployment (Um yeah)
Hardly a problem unique to me or any one place in our current economy. I see reports on the news about the group 'OCCUPY WALL STREET' that has been protesting corporate America and big banks in Zuccotti Park in New York City. It makes me a little nostalgic and I have been excited to see the movemen
t spreading to other cities and countries. So I sit here in my one bedroom apartment($600 a month, you couldn't rent a closet for that much in NY), and lamentably it is carpeted, an 'innovation' I loathe in apartment living, but what can you do right?
Quote of the day: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work." – Thomas Edison
This refers to my aforementioned problem, however dressed in overalls or a suit I am trying not to miss an opportunity to find that 'thing' that unquantifiable, seemingly unattainable, the ever elusive real career. There is perhaps no place where this quote could be more apropos than here in the overall capitol, where a ponytail and big 'diamond' studs are the height of fashion while cruising down the aisles at Walmart. Yes, I said Walmart. Not perhaps a deli or bodega (both ubiquitous in my native and sorely missed new York). And there are no sidewalks here! No sidewalks you gasp in horror, that's right it's automobile country. And sadly this new yorker still doesn't have a license, does this really surprise anyone? It's not only a huge culture shock, but a geographical challenge as well. And Food- FOOD- don't even get me started on food, I have one word for you ................................
